Nadira Mitchell, a citizen of the Navajo (Diné) Nation is an honors undergraduate student at the University of Arizona studying Natural Resources with an emphasis in Wildlife Conservation and Management. She is a student leader in the Native American community here on campus, holding the title Miss Native American University of Arizona First Attendant 2022-2023. A life-long resident of Tucson, Nadira is passionate about the Sonoran Desert, conducting wildlife conservation research using wildlife cameras, and helping lead American Indian Student Initiatives. In her first year at UArizona she became a founding member American Indian Student Initiatives (AISI). The student-run organization’s goal is to reduce environmental injustices for Indigenous communities in the state of Arizona. Nadira is interested in the integration of Indigenous perspectives in wildlife, Tribal lands, and natural resources policy. She aspires to advocate for environmental equity in Indigenous communities.
Crystal Beasley is a post-baccalaureate student with a major in Cyber Operations, emphasis in cyber engineering, at the University of Arizona working toward a career in cyber threat intelligence as an analyst. She intends to apply to law school to further her knowledge of national security and cybersecurity law. Crystal serves as the president of the University of Arizona Chapter of Women in Cybersecurity and volunteers as an Executive Assistant of the AZ Cyber Initiative, an approved and established 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to developing and building the next generation of cybersecurity professionals in Arizona. Crystal is a graduate from University of the Pacific where she earned her Bachelor of Music in Music Business and Management. While pursuing her first degree, she was an on-air announcer and engineer for KUOP public radio station. After graduating, she worked for Windswept Pacific Entertainment and Universal Music Group doing copyright registration and licensing. She then transitioned into the general administrative field where she has worked for over 20 years in both nonprofit and for-profit businesses. Additionally, Crystal has served as an instructor for AZ Cyber Initiative’s Cyber Bootcamp. |
Dominique ‘Nikki’ Galvez is a 2nd year PhD student in Optical Sciences at the University of Arizona. She became interested in optical sciences after seeing the holographic technologies currently underway in the optics building, and declaring “this is it, this is the future right here… and I want to be a part of it!” Her desire for knowledge has led her to pursue a PhD under Dr. Jennifer Barton at the BIO5’s Tissue Optics Laboratory. Nikki’s research focuses on the development of submillimeter endoscopes for the detection of ovarian cancer. This work ranges from the optical design of the system, to cell collection methods and the actual endoscope's construction. As a proud latina, her other work involves increasing and supporting diversity efforts at the optics college, and in general, spreading her love of and amazement for science to others.
