Exploring STEM Pathways 1:15pm-2:30pm - Sabino Room Join WISE for a session tailored to exploring your STEM identity. Finding the path within the sciences can include tough decisions from which major to select to involvement in research or community engagement. Featuring a panel of STEM professionals from varying fields of study and occupation, audience members will be able to learn about different pathways and trajectories within the sciences. This session is meant to prompt value and identity exploration in both large and small group facilitation. Audience members will be requiredto do a short pre-questionnaire prior to the session.

This peer-to-peer panel and conversation highlights a few of UA clubs and groups concentrated within the sciences that are carving out their own space and collaborating on campus to change the landscape of the STEM fields.

Keynote Session by Dr. Lekelia Jenkins 3:30pm - Kachina Lounge Lekelia “Kiki” Jenkins is a marine sustainability scientist and Associate Professor at Arizona State University. She grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, fishing and crabbing recreationally on the Chesapeake Bay and volunteering as a junior zookeeper. She received her PhD from Duke University by pioneering a new field of study into the invention and adoption of marine conservation technology. Her research centers on the human dimensions of marine sustainability solutions, including fisheries conservation technologies and marine renewable energy. Her work has led to regulatory changes that allow more sustainable fishing practices, has advised international fisheries diplomacy, and has informed renewable energy policy. Dr. Jenkins also studies the science dance as a means of science engagement, science communication, and social change. Among her many honors and awards, she received an Alfred P. Sloan Research Fellowship in Ocean Sciences and is a member of to the National Academies of Sciences Ocean Studies Board.
